LEAP - APPLY AND PRACTICE

Applying and Practicing finance knowledge in investment clubs, business case competitions, UROP and internships; opportunities to develop analytical skills, research skills, and presentation skills, gain actual hands-on experience of working in a competitive setting, and learn to perform with professional and ethical code of conduct.
 

Students need to earn at least 10 points but no more than 20 points in this category. In general, each hour of recognized activity will earn 1 point unless otherwise specified.

 

Recognized Activities Supporting Documents
  • Active members in on-campus investment clubs such as Traders@UST, Investment Circles, etc. who have prepared and presented research reports. Points for these memberships vary and will be determined on a case by case basis. 
  • Endorsement letter issued by the HKUST student group

 

  • Investment analysis competitions such as CFAI Research Investment Challenge held by HKSFA, business plan competitions sponsored by SBM, Value Investing Challenge held by FinSo and Chartwell, etc. In general, if a presentation is made (either face to face or through online) together with the submission of a written report, each student will earn 10 points; if receiving a merit award, each student will earn 15 points; if selected for top 3 awards, each student will earn 20 points. 
  • Announcement (e.g. email, poster, e-flyer, website, etc.)
  • Result Announcement (e.g. email, certificate, thank you email, endorsement email from the organizer, etc.)
  • UROP. In general, 1 credit in UROP 1000 or UROP1100 will earn 20 points. 
  • Your unofficial transcript with the record of the UROP
  • Internships, paid or un-paid. In general, 1 hour of internship work will earn 1 point.
  • Official company letter acknowledging the completion of the internship is required (letter of offer does not count)

 

Note: Students can work in groups in these competitions or projects. Each student will receive the same points in the same recognized activities.
